AFS Intercultural programmes is a non profit, volunteer based organisation that strives to bring about world peace through international student exchange. MGIS students have been participating in it’s exchange programmes since AFS resumed its activities in India after a long hiatus.

Two students, Zara Desai (DP 1) and Saher Shodhan (DP2), were selected in 2007 and are currently living in the USA and Brazil respectively.

In the past, Zuheir Desai (now an MGIS alumnus), was one of the first batch to be selected for the YES program which is sponsored by the US department of state. He lived in Eugene, Oregon, with an American family for a year while attending school there. Zara is currently on the YES program in Bowling Green, Ohio, while Saher received a partial scholarship from AFS to go to Brazil for a year.

MGIS’ philosophy promotes a genuine intercultural understanding. Students are confronted with a variety of situations on a daily basis and this helps them develop adaptive abilities that serve them well in international exchange and in other areas of both personal and professional life. It’s no wonder AFS and others consistently choose MGIS students to part take in their programmes.
