Students of DP (Grade 11 and 12) organised the entire show. The band enthralled the audience with its performance on July 12. Grade 9 and 10 had prepared short choreographed dance sequences to conclude the event and it was very well received by the spectators. Anjou maam’s zestful speech to commemorate ten years of the school and the success of the show was very touching. The spectators interviewed unanimously agreed that the band was good and that educational projects that promote joyful learning should be continued. At the end of the show, Sarvodaya International Trust, Gujarat Chapter sold books on Gandhi and Healing with Moltani Matti to raise funds for charity.
Well done students!

Abhik Basu:
I am studying Economics at University of Denison, USA.
“I’d like to think that that the most important asset that MGIS provided me with is a world-sensitive outlook. In the future, as I see myself move from place to place I think this is one thing that will help me no matter what I do. Besides that, it gave me a pot full of amazing, and fun memories as well!”

Naman (Std 7) enjoys writing poems and wanted to have this one published.
The Old Man in the Rain
There was once an old man in the rain.
Who was standing without a cane.
He walked until he was beside a train.
The train moved from its place, the old man jumped in without using his brain.
It stopped, the old man walked out and entered a plane.
Gates were open, air hostesses weren’t alert, even the plane took off, the old man fell, and was caught by a crane.
It let go, the old man fell, hurt his knee, and felt a lot of pain.
Some people saw what had happened, so they took him to a hospital in a cot tied to a chain.
After reaching, he went to a doctor who said, “Please sir there is no need to complain.
It is not a big sprain, so don’t take much strain and lie down in bed until your knee gets a nice regain.”
Never did the old man walk in the rain again.

Mr. Atul Karwal lived a long cherished dream of scaling the world’s tallest mountain range. Getting through the selection process itself is a feat as the selection lasted a few months, testing his physical abilities, endurance, adaptation skills, his knowledge about flora, fauna, mountain climbing, nutrition…his motivation!
To get selected he had to trek for weeks in dense forests under difficult circumstances that included rains that would refuse to stop for days, walking in knee deep murky water, sleeping in inhospitable conditions, facing crawling insects, slimy reptiles and wild animals. The list goes on. He lived his dream to climb the Everest for almost fifteen years and took more than a year getting ready for the expedition. After getting selected, the journey had just about begun. It included detailed, step by step guidelines to minimize health hazards and risks. The expedition was long and a single slip could prove to be fatal.
His determination, dedicated effort and ability to dream big are truly commendable.

Ahmedabad Mirror article by Pascal Chazot:

Recently, when I had to go to Paris, I went searching for some woolens in Ahmedabad. Purchasing a sweater in France was equivalent to a month’s grocery here at home. I was adamant to buy whatever I needed here. The wife dragged me all over C.G. road where some of the prices came as close as the ones on Champs-Elysees. I then dragged the wife to the Tibetan market where I not only bought woolies for myself, but for the whole family.
Apart from the Tibetan market and the odd momo restaurant, the Tibetan presence is scant in Ahmedabad. The ongoing Tibetan festival brings to us a whiff of a bygone era. (Continue reading …)

Ahmedabad Mirror article by Pascal Chazot:

I have always been interested by different cultures and my stay in India has been deeply enriching because of the variety of different cultural practices here, some which I have adopted. It amuses me to see how each culture gives value to sometimes opposite practices that can even lead to misunderstandings. I know of business deals that have fallen through because of some cultural differences that are misinterpreted.
The notion of time for example is a cultural issue. (Continue reading …)
