A tryst with Benjamin Zephaniah

By editor on Sunday, 17 February , 2008 - 5:28 pm

Students of MGIS have been studying poems written by Benjamin Zephaniah since four years now. The sheer visual appeal of his poetry as well as the aural ring to it makes it a wonderful pedagogical tool rich in learning possibilities, combining with ease learning and fun.

On 12th March 2007, he performed in Natrani. Students thronged in to watch him perform. His spontaneity and sense of humour floored everyone…

MGIS Students in Brazil, US in Exchange Programme

By Anjou C. on Monday, 29 October , 2007 - 9:47 am

In 2007 once again, two of our students Zara Desai (DP1) and Saher Shodhan (DP2) got selected by AFS and went on an exchange programme to US and Brazil for one full academic year. Here is what Saher has to say about his experience. Zara’s post will be put up shortly.

SAHER SPEAKS -
Brazil is not a country that many people from India, or for that matter most people in the world are familiar with. Last year I was given the chance of a lifetime when AFS was introduced to me by MGIS. AFS came to MGIS and had a presentation on the different programs they offer and what the application process consisted of. To be honest, I wasn’t too keen on applying because I never thought I would be one of the hundreds of candidates who applied. But thanks to my school and a little motivation from my friends and parents I applied for it. Eight months later, here I am sitting in my room in Brazil watching the ocean. Who would have guessed that I would be selected?

Teacher’s Day Celebrations

By Lissa C. on Wednesday, 20 September , 2006 - 5:09 pm

On Teacher’s Day, the students of PYP Year 1 to MYP Year 2 participated in a drawing competition, the themes of which were selected according to the projects the class was working on. The older students of MYP Year 3 & 4 worked on an essay

After the competition got over, a Magic show and a traditional puppet show enthralled the young learners. Later, a cake was cut, foot-tapping music was played and the students of MYP Year 3 broke into an impromptu performance of gymnastics. That set the mood for everyone to dance and everyone shook a leg…As they began to tire, food packets were distributed and MYP Year 2 students took over the stage. They organised a competition for teachers and made them do various activities. The day was concluded with a dance performance by students of MYP Year 2.

A panel of judges will go through the work of the students and shortlist the winners of the competition. They will be rewarded at the Award Ceremony held on 24 September 2006, in HSBC Bank (C.G. Road Branch) as HSBC sponsored the whole event. Ms. Seema Joshi coordinated with them and made it possible to organise it in a way that all students of MGIS be a part of the celebrations.
