The school band, Experiment 7 started out as a project work in 2004. This project which was conceived by Minoo Joshi, the then class-teacher of MYP 4, led to multi-disciplinary links and a real passion that continued beyond the class-room. Today, the band continues to exist and are amassing awards. They’re recording their first album and are being invited to perform in leading institutes such as IIM-Chaos, MSU, CEPT, NIFT, Nirma University…competing against university Rock Bands. Their first show was the 2004 Indian Rock Idols where they received a standing ovation as they were the youngest band playing…since then they’ve played and made people swing to their tunes. A tryst with Benjamin Zephaniah

By editor on Sunday, 17 February , 2008 - 5:28 pm

Students of MGIS have been studying poems written by Benjamin Zephaniah since four years now. The sheer visual appeal of his poetry as well as the aural ring to it makes it a wonderful pedagogical tool rich in learning possibilities, combining with ease learning and fun.

On 12th March 2007, he performed in Natrani. Students thronged in to watch him perform. His spontaneity and sense of humour floored everyone…

By editor on Tuesday, 5 February , 2008 - 3:22 pm

Janvi and KiteThis Monday, 4 February 2008, students got together and brought their pets to school thanks to Janvi Karwal, a DP student who is passionate about animals. What followed was a whirlwind of activity. Some brought hamsters, dogs, turtles, a snake…and an injured kite. Students came forward and shared their experiences of being pet owners to the awed gaze of Primary Year’s Students. Janvi explained the consequences of kite-flying on birds by introducing an injured kite to the students. (Continue reading …)

MGIS Students in Brazil, US in Exchange Programme

By Anjou C. on Monday, 29 October , 2007 - 9:47 am

In 2007 once again, two of our students Zara Desai (DP1) and Saher Shodhan (DP2) got selected by AFS and went on an exchange programme to US and Brazil for one full academic year. Here is what Saher has to say about his experience. Zara’s post will be put up shortly.

SAHER SPEAKS -
Brazil is not a country that many people from India, or for that matter most people in the world are familiar with. Last year I was given the chance of a lifetime when AFS was introduced to me by MGIS. AFS came to MGIS and had a presentation on the different programs they offer and what the application process consisted of. To be honest, I wasn’t too keen on applying because I never thought I would be one of the hundreds of candidates who applied. But thanks to my school and a little motivation from my friends and parents I applied for it. Eight months later, here I am sitting in my room in Brazil watching the ocean. Who would have guessed that I would be selected?

The Role of the MGIS Teacher in the MYP

By Anjou C. on Tuesday, 27 March , 2007 - 8:44 am

John Holt, an educationalist and psychologist says that great harm is done to children by adults who wish to ‘teach’ children. In the light of this statement, we would like to mention an anecdote. A well meaning person once remarked upon hearing that we worked in MGIS (the school where children play) , “Oh, that’s the school where they don’t teach!” We thought that was a fine compliment. At our school, we don’t teach; children learn. (Continue reading …)
